Mariko is an influencer who rose to fame in 2021 for sharing ASMR-style grocery haul and cooking videos in her spotless kitchen.

In 2023, she had her followers hooked with elegant wedding content that flashed her luxurious taste.

In recent weeks, Mariko, who has amassed nearly 13 million followers has started to tease her first creation – a large tote bag.

Fans were initially excited about the bag’s massive size and were excited to see Mariko take it with her on grocery trips.

However, once Mariko revealed the price, the bag went viral for all the wrong reasons.

“This is rude. This is so insulting,” said Amber Fehrenbacher, a marketing director from Missouri, in a video responding to the bag.

Fehrenbacher slammed Mariko’s “audacity” and showed off several large totes that were being sold by e-commerce company Alibaba for less than $1 each.

She acknowledged that Mariko’s bags are nicer because of their zipper pocket, but said it wasn’t enough to make up for the price.

“This should be illegal,” the exasperated TikToker said while laughing.

Others helped pile on Mariko for her controversial pricing with one person saying, “Your bag cost the same as my eye exam.”

But despite the online hate, the bags sold out just hours after they dropped on Wednesday, The New York Times reported.

“I guess Emily Mariko is winning this social experiment,” one TikToker commented with a shrugging emoji.

Mariko hasn’t commented on the tote bag controversy since the drop and continues to post her regular content.

On Wednesday, the now-pregnant influencer shared a video of herself making a plate of apples and peanut butter, and one commenter called her “unbothered.”

“I hope I will achieve this level of unbothered one day,” one person wrote.

Mariko is married to Matt Rickard – a software engineer who worked at Google.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to Mariko for comment.

In other influencer news, a TikTok cop who was known for posting videos with animals has died, and the cause is a mystery.
