KELSEA Ballerini has revealed to fans that her beloved dog, Dibs, has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
She shared the news on Instagram, revealing that she felt the need to take a break from promoting her upcoming album, Patterns, and new song, Sorry Mom, to focus on Dibs, as he has a following among her fans.
Kelsea, 30, took to her Instagram Story on Wednesday, giving a sad update about her dog.
“I feel pretty disingenuous promoting this album and tracklist reveal (which I am so, so proud of) without updating you on my sweet Dibs’ health),” she began.
“The last few days we have discovered that Dibby has inoperable cancer in his heart. He’s not in pain, and luckily it hasn’t spread further.”
The Cowboys Cry Too singer continued, “We’re going to start him on the ‘big’ meds to try to make sure he can have as many comfortable and happy days (weeks, months [prayer hands]) left as possible. The doctors have been amazing, my mom is here (he stans grandma), and Chase is the greatest dog dad in the world.
“He is getting extra cuddles and kibbles from his little family.”
Kelsea concluded, “It’s a complex and emotional time. He’s been my baby and my stead for the last years and very much alongside this whole journey with us all.
“I know so many of you care about him and are sending him prayers and love, and from my whole heart…thank you. He’s wagging his tail right now no doubt saying thank you too.”
The singer also shared a photo of Dibs on her Instagram Story.

Kelsea has always been a dog lover, opening up about it in 2020 when she was featured in a Pedigree commercial.
“I’ve grown up with dogs my whole life. When I started touring, it was my first time really being on my own. I was homesick sometimes, and I was like, ‘I really want a dog,'” she said at the time.
“Dibs came into my life when I got my first tour bus. I think dogs kind of make home wherever you are, and so, for me, he’s always made it feel like home. … The magic of a dog is just the fact that they’re by your side no matter what.”
