Welcome to SOUND ADVICE, Interview’s weekly destination for playlists curated by our friends, enemies, and lovers. In recent weeks, we’ve collected playlists from Grace VanderWaal, David Longstreth, and Chase Icon. This week’s installment comes from New York underground legend Lizzi Bougatsos, the experimental musician and artist who also happens to be a major cratedigger. Last Thursday, she headed uptown to play an all-vinyl set at Valentino’s L’Atelier Sonore listening event, and for those who missed it, she sent us over a playlist inspired by “a line in a Nikki Giovanni poem where she mentions putting a passport on a burner stove with Sun Ra in Egypt to set the tone.” While you listen to tracks by Yves Tumor, The Art of Noise, and Bougatsos’ own band, Gang Gang Dance, read on to discover her vinyl shopping tips and the most surprising record in her collection.
