CAUSING CONCERN
In the first video, which concerned supporters, the actress held up an orange berry at the camera, giving fans a closer look.
Alicia said in the clip, “Ok, I’ve discovered something that I can’t figure out what it is, and I need your help.
“I just bit into it because it was on the street, and we were discussing whether this was a tomato or not.”
She panned the camera toward. a bush full of the fruit in someone’s garden, and went on talking, saying, “It’s definitely not because look at these leaves. Those are the leaves, so what the heck is this?”
The actress took a second bite and stated that it tasted “almost like a pepper” as she noted, “I don’t think you’re supposed to eat this.”
Expressing her confusion, Alicia captioned the video, “What the heck is this? I’m in England and can’t figure it out.”
The video was viewed by over 1.4 million people and had thousands of comments on TikTok.
Fans quickly flocked to the comments, claiming the fruit looks like solanum pseudocapsicum, also known as a “Jerusalem cherry” or “winter cherry.”
“Jerusalem Cherry… They are poisonous,” the person wrote.
“We used to put them down our friends’ tops and called it itching powder. Definitely do not eat them,” another person wrote.
All parts of the plant, which is a member of the nightshade species, are poisonous, particularly the unripe fruits.
