I’m in awe of Nicole Kidman’s ponytail at the Golden Globes. The hairstyle comes in a long line of wiggy ‘dos for the actor.
I like to think of Kidman’s hairstyles as the wayward sidekicks to her leading lady roles.
Think about her performances last year: In “The Perfect Couple,” that wig was always a gust of wind away from flying off her head. It was styled so haphazardly in each scene; the part and the “bang” were especially … tortured. In “A Family Affair,” the wig is trying to look tousled, but instead looks like it was pulled right off a mannequin at a beauty supply store; the color also looked like yellow Barbie doll hair. I haven’t seen “Babygirl” yet, but from the looks of the trailer, the wig is giving struggle just like the ones in these other projects. Obviously there are other bad wigs of yesteryear, but I don’t have that kind of time.
That leads us to the ponytail at the Globes tonight — which is giving “I’m going somewhere fancy so please give me a huge updo so I can look sophisticated and chic.” The Cut noted that Kidman, Kathy Bates, Margaret Qualley and Angelina Jolie were all part of the Bumpit brigade tonight.
Quite frankly, I’m not mad at it at all. It just gives me yet another chance to say, “Wow, even rich people can wear bad wigs.”
