Beyonce fans are now raising money for tour tickets: “This way is safer than selling my kidney.”
Beyonce’s much-anticipated Renaissance world tour was announced just last week, and demand already far exceeds the supply of tickets. That has yet to stop fans from doing what they can to raise money to get the highly sought-after tickets.
Queen Bey is embarking on her first stretch of stadium shows in five years since her On the Run II Tour with husband Jay-Z. She’ll be touching down in parts of Europe and the UK before beginning the US leg of the tour in Philadephia’s Lincoln Financial Field on July 12.
Ticketmaster has already released a statement claiming that in some cities, pre-sale registration for Renaissance tickets has exceeded “the number of available tickets by more than 800%.” Fans already expect a hefty price tag to see Beyonce live, so some have started taking measures to acquire quick cash.
A fan named Jamaal Anderson has already raised more than his $300 goal on GoFundMe, stating, “This is the only life experience I care about living before I die. I will get those front-row tickets either way, but this way is safer than selling my kidney on the black market. All jokes aside, just being in the building would be the most amazing thing ever.”
Fellow fundraiser Ashley St. Hilaire is seeking $2,000 for tickets, travel expenses, and a “show-worthy outfit” but has only raised $60 in donations as of Tuesday afternoon. Fundraisers who have accrued at least $100 in donations so far include April Cousar, Raheem Solomon, and Cierra Coleman.
Despite the high demand, fans are crossing their fingers that they’ll be able to score a ticket next week — especially as Swifties continue to reel from their own Ticketmaster debacle at the end of last year. Resale prices for Taylor Swift’s concerts entered the thousands, so Beyonce fans are bracing their wallets for impact.
