Historic wind-blown wild fires are raging across Los Angeles, prompting the cancellation of several live shows at the Kia Forum, Intuit Dome, and more.
Five people have died and more than 180,000 people are under evacuation orders as five fires rage across the Los Angeles area. More than 1,300 structures have already burned, with 60,000 more under threat of burning as strong winds continue to fan the flames, spreading across populated parts of Southern California. CBS News reports three of the five fires are not contained at all—including the Pacific Palisades and Eaton fires.
The Pacific Palisades Fire covers nearly 27 square miles and has destroyed hundreds of structures. The Eaton fire in the hills above Altadena has killed five people and burned 16 square miles, with 1,000 structures burned. The Sunset Fire erupted Wednesday in the Hollywood Hills with a new round of mandatory evacuations—though this blaze has been stopped. Meanwhile, Hurst and Lidia fires continue to burn acres of brush and are 10% and 40% contained respectively.
The Alter Ego Show at the Kia Forum was cancelled with a note, “the devastation from the fires is beyond comprehension. Our thoughts are with the Los Angeles community and listeners who have been affected by this tragedy.”
Meanwhile, a Rod Wave concert at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood also cancelled, stating, “The health and safety of our fans and employees will remain the top priority. Tickets will be refunded at the original point of purchase.”
Classical pianist Igor Levit also saw his show at The Walt Disney Concert Hall canceled. The LA Phil released a statement saying a new date and additional information will be communicated to ticket holders as soon as it has been arranged.
The Critics Choice Awards—with nominees including Miley Cyrus, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, Selena Gomez, and Maren Morris—was postponed from January 12 to January 26 at the Santa Monica Airport’s Barker Hangar. “This unfolding tragedy has already had a profound impact on our community. All our thoughts and prayers are with those battling the devastating fires and with all who have been affected,” says Critics Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin.
