On Tuesday, Sammy Hagar announced the 2024 “Best of All Worlds Tour” — a nod to Van Halen’s 2004 “Best of Both Worlds Tour” that featured both Hagar and David Lee Roth.
The Red Rocker will be performing Van Halen material on the trek, and now he’s extended open invitations to both David Lee Roth and Alex Van Halen to join him onstage at some point along the way.
Hagar appeared on The Howard Stern Show alongside his all-star touring band featuring longtime Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, guitar wizard Joe Satriani, and drummer Jason Bonham. It was during the interview with Stern that Hagar extended the invites, emphasizing that the tour was a celebration of not only his era of the band, but DLR’s, as well.
“It’s time — nobody else is gonna do it,” said Hagar of performing songs from different eras of Van Halen. “If Dave goes out, he can’t sing my stuff. [But] we can do a few of the early Van Halen songs. I have no problem with that; I did it when I was in Van Halen. This is really a celebration of all that, and we are the only ones who can do it.”
Hagar continued: “We’re gonna invite every musician in every town. … Other guitar players, we’ll get them involved; other singers, get ’em involved. If Alex Van Halen wants to jump out — if David Lee Roth wants to come out and join us, come on motherf**ker, you are welcome. This is about Van Halen.”
Stern was quick to ask whether Alex Van Halen would actually make an appearance on the tour (Hagar had previously mentioned being completely cut off by the drummer).
“I would hope so,” replied Hagar of Van Halen showing up, before taking a more sarcastic tone: “I reach out to Al about once a month for five years now, and he doesn’t get back to me.”
Hagar’s “Best of All Worlds Tour” will hit 28 cities across the US and Canada, kicking off July 13th in West Palm Beach, Florida, and wrapping up on August 31st in St. Louis. You can get tickets here.
