Pearl Jam has scrapped two more of their European tour dates in Berlin because of an unspecified illness.
“We are sorry to share that the Pearl Jam concerts scheduled for Tuesday, July 2nd and Wednesday, July 3rd in Berlin are canceled,” read the band’s June 30 statement on X (formerly Twitter).
“Tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase. Thank you for your continued understanding and support, it means the world,” they added.
“Despite everyone’s best efforts, the band has yet to make a full recovery.”
“The impacts of this decision are not lost on us. We feel deeply that so many people spend their time, money, and emotional energy to get tickets and then come see the band and it is heart wrenching to have to disappoint you,” the statement continued. “We also appreciate the many people whose hard work goes into making these shows happen.”
There was no possible rescheduling for the Berlin leg and this follows the recent cancellation of their June 29 show at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the same reason.
Pearl Jam released their 12th studio album, “Dark Matter,” in April. In February, ahead of the album drop, they announced their plan to take the new album on a massive world tour.
At the time, the band shared their excitement to tour with the new record.
“We still care about putting something out there that is meaningful,” lead vocalist Eddie Vedder shared in a press release. “No hyperbole, I think this is our best work.”
The “Dark Matter” tour kicked off on May 4 in Vancouver, Canada.
Pearl Jam’s guitarist Mike McCready suffered a fall onstage during the band’s sold-out show on May 5 at Rogers Arena.
McCready, 58, appeared to be a little too into the music as he stepped forward and plummeted from the stage during his “Porch” solo.
But, as a true professional, the show must go on. McCready continued to play his solo from the floor.
After a security guard helped him return to the stage, the rocker flashed a smile and carried on as if nothing happened.
The 25-song set features nine songs from the new album but works in all the band’s past hits, like “Jeremy” and “Even Flow.”
After the European leg, the tour will make its way back to the states on Aug. 22 at Washington-Grizzly Stadium in Missoula, Montana.
The band’s remaining European tour dates include Barcelona, Madrid and Lisbon, with their next scheduled performance on July 6 in Barcelona.
The group also consists of Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament and Matt Cameron.
Deep Sea Diver and Glen Hansard are slated as openers for various North America dates, while the Murder Capital is listed as the opener in the United Kingdom and Europe. Richard Ashcroft was added as the opening act in Dublin and London and the Pixies were listed as support in Australia and New Zealand.
The “Dark Matter” tour concludes in Sydney, Australia, on Nov. 21.
