On Wednesday, July 30, a funeral procession for the late Ozzy Osbourne will be held in his hometown of Birmingham, England. According to an initial report published by The Independent, the occasion will give fans and admirers a final opportunity to pay respect to the late Prince of Darkness.
The funerary convoy will begin around 1 p.m. local time, ahead of a private funeral for friends and family, with the intent that they will be able to take in the city’s response to Osbourne’s passing, by way of tributes, flowers, and memories, on display and lining the streets. According to the publicized route, the late rocker’s remains will be transported down Broad Street and will solemnly pause at the Black Sabbath bench and bridge.
The motorcade will be escorted by a live brass band performance featuring musicians from Birmingham’s own second line, the Bostin Brass. Road closures are expected, according to the city’s council, which is reportedly working with the Osbourne family, who are fronting any associated costs.
The mayor of Birmingham, Zafar Iqbal, commented: “Ozzy was more than a music legend – he was a son of Birmingham. Having recently been awarded the Freedom of the City and following his celebrated appearance at the Back to the Beginning concert at Villa Park earlier this month, it was important to the city that we support a fitting, dignified tribute ahead of a private family funeral.”
He continued, “We know how much this moment will mean to his fans. We’re proud to host it here with his loving family in the place where it all began, and we are grateful that they have generously offered to pay to enable this to happen and support the city is giving him the farewell he deserves.”
For those unable to attend the UK event, a livestream will be available via the city’s Black Sabbath bench.
