In the spirit of Halloween, prodigious 13-year-old YouTube rocker Nandi Bushell has uploaded a drum cover of Slipknot’s “Psychosocial.”
Donning a devilish costume, Bushell takes on the dynamic drum parts of the late Joey Jordison, whose pounding steers the complex arrangement of the All Hope Is Gone track. It’s certainly an appropriate song choice for Nandi to show off her own skills behind the kit.
If you haven’t been keeping up with Nandi’s channel, the multi-instrumentalist has long since proven herself as a straight-up virtuoso…with flare to boot. The childish enthusiasm of her early clips has turned into stage-ready swagger, as she spins her sticks and grins at the camera with self-assurance. Of course, she nails the song’s iconic guitar/drum breakdown and its confounding time signature.
The positive comments have been pouring in on the post: “Good lord, I’m just imagining the future in which any metal band lets Nandi guest on their set.”
In the pantheon of “Psychosocial” drum covers, we’d put Nandi’s performance right up there with the guy who played the song on a miniature drum kit inside of a fridge (which still baffles us over four years later).
Bushell is famous for her multi-instrumental covers, but she’s also been working on her own original music. Her collaborative track with actor Josh Brolin, the spooky dance rocker “Sweet Nightmares,” dropped earlier this month on Friday the 13th.
