AFI have announced their 12th studio album, titled Silver Bleeds the Black Sun…, set for release on October 3rd.
The alt-rock vets also released the video for the lead single “Behind the Clock,” a bass-driven rocker with a goth tinge. The track has nods to The Cult and David Bowie, with thick, atmospheric production and a grandiose vocal performance from singer Davey Havok.
Accompanying the single was a video directed by Gilbert Trejo, with the moody and reflective clip mirroring the subject matter in the song.
“We wanted the video to feel like you’re seeing something you shouldn’t,” remarked Trejo in a press release. “In effect you are, because that’s how Davey writes lyrics. He’s expressing himself so openly, that you’re let behind this curtain. It’s a world that most artists don’t cut to, marrow deep.”

Added Havok, “Gilbert’s video has sublimated the essence of ‘Behind the Clock.’ His vision and expertise is inspiring. Working with him was a privilege and utter joy. He is an artist of the purest form.”
Meanwhile, AFI will be on the road this fall supporting the new album with a previously announced US headlining tour. Dates kick off September 30th in Madison, Wisconsin, and wrap up on November 5th in San Diego. Get tickets here.
