Perhaps taking inspiration from fellow English pop star Elton John’s performance of “Pink Pony Club” with Chappell Roan at his Oscars party on Sunday night, Rick Astley has uploaded an acoustic cover of the hit song to YouTube. Watch it below.
While surrounded by his guitar collection, Astley delivered a seated “Pink Pony Club” cover showing off his oft-underrated baritone vocals. The performance built toward Astley donning a cowboy hat, which coincided with him taking the energy levels up a few notches.
“Feeling in the pink today, I love this tune,” Astley wrote in the caption accompanying the video on Facebook. “💗Chappell Roan #springishere #spring”
Astley is no stranger to putting his own spin on hit songs, having covered Foo Fighters’ “Everlong” and Post Malone’s “Better Now” while under lockdown. More recently, he teamed up with UK indie rock band Blossoms to perform a full set of The Smiths covers at Glastonbury 2023 and took on Olivia Rodrigo’s “drivers license” on BBC Radio 2’s Piano Room.
Last October, Astley published his autobiography, titled Never. His most recent album, Are We There Yet? was released in 2023.
As for Chappell Roan, she has a string of international festival dates coming up this summer. Get your tickets here.
