Post Malone has teamed up with Mondelēz International for an exclusive flavor of OREO cookies. The move has sparked the ire of PETA.
Limited edition Post Malone Oreo cookie packs rolled out on February 3 for a limited time in support of the Super Bowl. Posty’s special cookie features a first-of-its-kind swirled creme that combines salted caramel and shortbread flavor creme.
“Can’t believe they let me make my own Oreo cookie. So happy everyone gets to try the taste twist—hope you love it as much as I do, ‘cause I think it’s the best Oreo ever! It’s the first time Oreo has ever twisted the creme of the cookie and they named it after me,” says Posty.
Each unique cookie also features 1 of 9 unique embossment inspired by Posty’s world and handpicked by the artist himself. They include a hero OREO x Posty vinyl look that shows off his diverse discography. Each pack also contains a handwritten signed note on the back of the pack from Post Malone himself.
PETA takes issue with the cookie partnership because the Oreo brand parent company Mondelēz International uses mice in its nutritional testing. PETA says the company has experimenters who force mice to eat human feces before dissecting them in the name of ‘nutrition science.’
“These experiments are not only cruel but also unreliable, as animals’ bodies react very differently from humans,” PETA’s note to Posty reads. “With so many modern and human research methods available today, sticking to these outdated and inhumane practices just doesn’t make sense. Mondelēz International instituted a limited ban on animal testing in 2018, but that ban includes a stipulation that testing would continue “when it is needed to advance fundamental knowledge in nutritional science.”
PETA says its campaign against Mondelēz International is intended to inform consumers about food and beverage companies’ animal testing status so they can support companies that do not engage in testing on animals.
