Ozzy Osbourne and Billy Morrison have unveiled their new single and video “Gods of Rock N Roll” (featuring Steve Stevens), an orchestral reworking of the song “Gods” from Morrison’s 2015 album God Shaped Hole.
As previously reported, despite being officially released today (February 14th), “Gods of Rock N Roll” is already rising up Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, with Morrison having premiered the song on SiriusXM’s Ozzy’s Boneyard channel a few weeks ago.
Ozzy told Kerrang! of the new track, “Billy and I wrote ‘Gods of Rock N Roll’ together in a hotel room while I was touring in South America about 10 years ago. This re-recorded version of the song finally has all the bells and whistles. I told Billy then that it needed an orchestra and a choir, but it took 10 fucking years for him to listen to me.”
Morrison stated, “Ozzy and I have breathed new life into what we always felt was a huge song. ‘Gods of Rock N Roll’ was written ten years ago in a South American hotel room, but with this re-recording we both feel we have finally made the song what it was always meant to be – a huge emotive ballad.”
In addition to the 61-piece Budapest Scoring Orchestra and lead guitar from Steve Stevens, ‘Gods of Rock N Roll’ features the John Burroughs High School choir.
‘Gods of Rock N Roll” will appear on the deluxe edition of Morrison’s 2024 album, The Morrison Project, arriving February 21st. Osbourne also appeared with Morrison and Stevens on the song “Crack Cocaine,” which was included on the original edition of The Morrison Project.
Osbourne and his band Black Sabbath will perform for the last time ever on July 5th at Villa Park in Birmingham, England. The all-day concert will also feature performances by Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Alice in Chains, Gojira, and many other metal luminaries.
