Creed added a surprise to their setlist on Sunday night (July 27th) in Memphis, covering the U2 classic “Where the Streets Have No Name” for the first time in concert.
Fan-filmed video from the gig shows lead guitarist Mark Tremonti and touring guitarist Brian Brasher playing The Edge’s famous ringing intro on the anthemic opening track from The Joshua Tree. The cover is pretty faithful to the original, although Scott Stapp’s raspy hard-rock delivery offers a different vibe than Bono’s soaring original vocal track. With it being the first time Creed has performed the song live, Stapp can be seen occasionally peeking at the lyrics on a monitor.
Creed’s “Summer of ’99” North American tour continues tonight (July 29th) in Wichita, Kansas, and runs through an August 30th show in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Pick up tickets here, and see the band’s cover of “Where the Streets Have No Name” below.
