Former actress Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s exit from the royal family has continually made them tabloid fodder, especially since they chose to step down as senior members more than two years ago. Their decision did sit well with the royal family and many British natives at the time, and despite the passage of time, the pair continues to feel the sting of angry individuals from time to time.
Even though Prince Andrew’s awful judicial ordeals have recently cast a pall over them, the distressed royal has withdrawn into solitude after the court case ended. This has helped shift the focus back to Markle and Harry, as seen by the booing they received from some part of the public at the Platinum Jubilee church service on Friday.
Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Appeared To Avoid The Senior Royals
The royal duo, who have attended fewer royal events following their dramatic 2020 escape from the royal family, were booed as they exited St. Paul’s Cathedral in London holding hands.
Earlier in the event, Markle and Harry took seats in a way that hinted at lingering difficulties with the royal family’s senior members. Throughout the National Thanksgiving ceremony, the twosome sat beside Harry’s cousins, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, and their spouses, Jack Brooksbank and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
On the other side, Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, were positioned across from them, and many expected the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to share a bench with the couple who had come earlier.
Furthermore, Harry and Markle did not appear to connect with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge during the event. While this may not have contributed to the booing outside, it is clear that the ex-actress and her royal spouse remain unpopular with the royal family and certain members of the public.
Meghan seemed to sense the mixed response, but she kept things casual as she headed down the stairwell with her husband, joking and smiling. She wore a stylish white attire with a matching hat while Harry was dressed in a black suit top and striped trousers.
Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Attended Thursday’s Preliminary Event
The boos Markle and Harry received greatly contrasted with the reception the other senior royal family members got when they left the event. Particularly Middleton and William, the successor to the monarchy after his father, Prince Charles, allegedly received the biggest applause from the crowd as they exited the cathedral.
The event honored the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s reign in the United Kingdom, with Trooping the Colour and the lighting of the beacons starting off the celebrations on Thursday. Markle and Harry were also present at the weekday ceremony but were not spotted socializing with the royal family’s senior members.
“At the moment, it does not look likely that Harry and Meghan and William and Kate will meet up separately during the Jubilee celebrations,” one Palace insider said via Page Six. “There is certainly nothing in the diary at the moment.”
The Queen Was Absent At The Platinum Jubilee Church Service
At the Thursday kick-off event, the Queen, 96, was seen waving to passing bystanders from the balcony of Buckingham Palace with other senior royals and their children. However, she did not attend the church service, ostensibly because she did not feel well.
“The Queen greatly enjoyed today’s Birthday Parade and flypast but did experience some discomfort,” the statement from Buckingham Palace read. “Taking into account the journey and activity required to participate in tomorrow’s National Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral, Her Majesty with great reluctance has concluded that she will not attend.”
There was no word on whether Prince Harry and Markle paid a visit to the Queen in addition to attending the activities. Because they are no longer working royals, they did not join the other royals on the Buckingham Palace balcony on Thursday.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Still Heavily Criticized
After stepping down from their royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan have continually been controversially criticized by the British media and the public, adding more to the duo’s media debacle since they announced their affair years ago.
Following their contentious departure, Meghan and Harry gave an explosive tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey about the response they received from family and others, sparking feud rumors and escalating friction among the royals.
The couple has also relocated to Montecito, California, where they are raising their three-year-old son Archie and 11-month-old daughter Lilibet. They currently manage Archewell Inc, an organization that specializes in non-profit activities and creative media initiatives.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s present status as bad eggs in some quarters of the British public is unlikely to change anytime soon, which might lead to the couple skipping more royal engagements in the future.
