In the competitive landscape of Hollywood, breaking through can be daunting, but Colombian actress, singer, and filmmaker Vanessa Gelacio is here to prove that dreams can become reality, regardless of one’s background.
From bohemian theater to the big stage
Gelacio’s inspiration ranges from ‘90s rock videos to classic films and Disney TV series. Finding excitement from a diverse music, film, and TV collection, Gelacio has felt an undeniable impulse to pursue acting.
Born and raised in Colombia, Gelacio began her acting journey in a small, bohemian theater. Despite the theater’s lack of glamor, she spent a few years on its stage, honing her skills through determination and grit while learning some of the most valuable survival skills as an artist and storyteller. Her time at this “grubby” theater proved to be a humbling experience and shaped this up-and-coming actress.
“My theater teachers were so strict they taught us to utilize only one sheet of toilet paper to remove our makeup. Of course, I thought they were so stingy but lo and behold, when we would go on tour to remote places in the Andean Mountains, we would run low on supplies, and then I understood their reasons,” Gelacio explains.
In high school, Gelacio had the honor of collaborating on visually exciting shows that used techniques like black light theater and shadow play, which helped her grow both creatively and professionally. After graduation, she moved to Los Angeles and earned a drama and filmmaking degree from the Los Angeles Acting Conservatory.
This emerging talent in acting is ready to show Hollywood that she is here to do the work. Ready to take on new challenges, Gelacio’s ability to sing, act, and dance makes her a triple threat, and her dedication to telling meaningful stories with professionalism and integrity sets her apart in this competitive industry.
A rising star in Hollywood

During her time in Los Angeles, Gelacio has already proven herself a rising star, landing roles with established professionals and gaining invaluable insights into the craft. Some of Vanessa’s professional highlights include acting opposite Danny Trejo in an upcoming slasher zombie film, which She said was a truly surreal experience for her.
Other career highlights for Gelacio were her starring role in E Pluribus Unum, directed by Rency Punoosi, and the opportunity to work on Miranda’s Victim, which gave her the chance to witness the work of amazing Hollywood talents like Donald Sutherland, Andy Garcia, and Ryan Phillippe.
Gelacio also has had the honor of being involved in The Italians where she got to meet David DeLuise, another memorable experience for the Hollywood newcomer.
Most recently, Gelacio contributed to the film RIP, which stars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck—an exciting project for fans of Good Will Hunting and Ocean’s 11.
Trusting the process
A big challenge for Gelacio in her professional journey was moving abroad. Being away from her support system—her family and close friends—and adjusting to a new city was brutal for the Hollywood actress.
However, she states, “Over the years, the universe has yielded me mentors and a core group of friends from all over the world that have become family and my support system.”
Gelacio has also had to overcome her impatience, an inherent challenge for someone who desires immediate results. Transitioning into the competitive acting world taught her that patience is not just necessary but invaluable. Reflecting on her journey, she explains, “In an industry that often demands immediate results, I try to embrace the importance of enjoying the journey.” This mindset shift has allowed her to face challenges head-on, focusing on personal growth and trusting the process until the right opportunities arise.
Despite obstacles, Gelacio’s willingness to confront the unknown leads her forward in her professional career. She understands that, while the path may not always be clear, it is worthwhile to take a leap of faith—and jump.
