A crowd in Aurora, Illinois broke the Headbanging World Record last night as they waited for the fireworks to begin. Over 1,000 people were in attendance to see the Fox Valley Orchestra perform during the Aurora fireworks.
As I’m sure you remember, Aurora was the city where Wayne’s World took place both on SNL and in the movies. It’s been 25 years since Wayne’s World debuted, so to honor Wayne and Garth the Aurora crowd broke the headbanging world record by rocking along to ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen.
The Fox Falley Orchestra began playing ‘Stairway to Heaven’ by Led Zeppelin and the 1812 Overture to signal to the crowd that they’d soon be busting into ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, the song Wayne and his crew rocked out to in the infamous Wayne’s World car scene. The previous Headbanging World Record was set back in 2014 with 320 people, but there was believed to be well over 1,000 people in attendance at yesterday’s record-breaking performance in Aurora.
According to ABC 7 Chicago, local officials and volunteers were on hand to officiate and ensure the feat would count as an official record in the Guinness World Records book. It’s only been a few hours but Guinness hasn’t certified the record yet.
