Former Miss Universe Catriona Gray threw her full support behind the makers of local products produced by artisans of Ilocos Norte.
After visiting the northern province recently, Gray expressed her support to the Ilocanos, posting photos of earrings and local handicrafts made from coconut in an Instagram post on Sunday.
“Love these handmade earrings by @artritos – painted by @ambanaag2022 using coco shells from the @delmarcocoatbp CoOp. Love knowing this little piece of beauty is also a result of the resourcefulness and collective vision of a local community,” she said about the earrings she wore in the photo.
In a separate Instagram post, Gray showed another set of photos, this time ofcups made of coconut and other handicrafts consisting of necklaces and purses.
“Nagsimula ang @delmarcocoatbp noong 2008 para matulungan ang mga nanay sa kanilang community. (@delmarcocoatbp started in 2008 to help mothers in their community). At dahil sa (And because of the) pandemic, the mission of their co-op grew. Dahil maraming (Because there’s plenty of) coconut farm sa (in) Pagudpud, they saw the potential in the what would be ‘waste’ to create locally made souvenirs and products,” she said about the products.
Gray marveled at the many uses of coconut as it can be made into a lot of useful things.
“What many call the coconut tree as the “tree of life”, they see as the “tree of hope”. Kaya let’s support local. Dahil (Because) behind every product is a story of livelihood and support of our communities,” she said. EDV
