James is the middle child and was born on August 22, 1978.

Fun fact, the actor named his little sister in Gavin And Stacey Ruth, after his youngest sibling.

Becoming a star

Malcolm and Margaret’s famous son’s success started in the 90s when he bagged his first TV role in Boyz Unlimited in 1999.

From there he started getting film work and starred in two Tango adverts, but he became a household name through the TV series Fat Friends, which ran from 2000 to 2005.

James then bagged a role in the Alan Bennett play The History Boys, which was a huge hit and was turned into a movie.

But major success came when the joker wrote the sitcom Gavin And Stacey with Ruth Jones and created his alter-ego Smithy which proved hugely popular.
