Ween will be giving their 1994 album Chocolate and Cheese a deluxe reissue featuring 15 previously unreleased outtakes and demos.
Arriving on August 2nd, the 3xLP set is a remastered version of the beloved alternative rock band’s fourth album, which served as Ween’s first in a professional recording studio. To preview the reissue, Ween have offered a previously unreleased version of their song “Junkie Boy,” which you can stream below.
Ween’s Mickey Melchiondo sifted through the band’s vast collection of outtakes to make up Chocolate and Cheese’s deluxe edition, and decided his favorites with Aaron Freeman. “Keeping with Ween tradition, Aaron and I probably picked all the wrong songs, mixed them, and now here they are,” Melchiondo said in a press release.
He elaborated further in the new album’s liner notes, writing, “When I hear it, I feel like I’m listening to an autobiography of our lives in the early to mid-’90s…If it sounds like we had fun making it, we did. That’s kind of what Ween is all about, though.” In addition to “Junkie Boy,” the deluxe edition includes new tracks like “Warm Socks,” “Smooth Mover,” “Dirty Money,” and several more. See the tracklist below. Pre-orders are ongoing.
Ween are celebrating 40 years of the band with a brief tour of the Pacific Northwest in August, and celebrating 30 years of Chocolate and Cheese with a special hometown show at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia. Ween were previously planning on a spring tour, but cancelled it earlier this year so that Melchiondo could focus on his “mental and spiritual wellbeing.” See their 2024 tour dates below, and get tickets for all Ween’s upcoming shows here.
