The original version of The Long Walk was published under King’s pseudonym Richard Bachman, and tells the story of 100 teenage boys in a dystopian America who enroll in an annual walking competition. Like stories that would become popular in the decades after its release — like Squid Game and others — the lone survivor wins only by out-surviving his competitors.
Now, the film adaptation will arrive after years in the making — decades, in fact. The earliest attempts were made in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and in more recent years, New Line Cinema was working on a version for a time before the rights lapsed in 2022. Lionsgate acquired it after that, with Lawrence, Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, and Cameron MacConomy producing.
Along with the trailer, the theatrical poster for the film has arrived as well, based on the original 1979 novel’s cover artwork. See it below.
