The cast of the next Transformers movie, “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” just got bigger thanks to Pete Davidson and Michelle Yeoh. The film’s director, Steven Caple Jr. (“Creed II”), revealed the big news on Oct. 11 via an Instagram post with videos of recording sessions with the two actors.
“Pete Davidson in disguise. 😂 @transformersmovie cast is amazing, man,” Caple Jr. wrote in a caption. “Sneak peek of Pete voicing Mirage & @michelleyeoh_official blessing us as the voice of Airazor 🫣 #rotb 2023.” Davidson and Yeoh join previously announced cast members Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, who, unlike their new costars, have live-action roles in the upcoming film.
“Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” the seventh installment in the blockbuster franchise, follows the 2018 film “Bumblebee.” According to Variety, the movie steps back into the ’90s to reportedly introduce the Maximals and Terrorcons, two new cybernetic alien parties taking sides in the existing battle between the Autobots and Decepticons.
The Hollywood Reporter also noted that the new movie’s name ties back to the ’90s cartoon “Beast Wars,” which evolved around a group of robots that morphed into animals. Caple Jr., who grew up as a “Beast Wars” fan, took inspiration from the cartoon for his “Transformers” vision. “There are different breeds of Transformers,” Caple Jr. said during a virtual press event in June 2021, per THR. “In our particular film, they are prehistoric animals who travel through time and space, and we find them here on Earth.”
