Following their dreamy debut EP I Can Carry It All, Los Angeles rock band MyVeronica returns with ‘Calf,’ a single that amplifies their 90s-inspired sound with heavier, more intense elements.
‘Calf’ retains MyVeronica’s signature blend of distortion and introspection, but Mia Lin, the band’s vocalist and guitarist, pushes the sound into darker territory, exploring themes of life and death through contrasting musical layers.
Lin explains:
“‘Calf’ is an exploration in contrast— hard and soft, loud and quiet, life and death. I wanted to explore the ways that these contrasting parts inform each other. We buried a bunch of guitar noise and feedback under the main instrumental of the song to create a sonic duality that explores this idea further. Every track on this song plays with contrast, summing up to create the feeling of ebbing and flowing throughout the song.”
With ‘Calf,’ MyVeronica takes a bold step forward, merging their dream-rock roots with a heavier, more resonant sound that showcases the band’s growth while retaining its introspective edge.
