PARTY loving theatre-goers are set to return to the Australian outback as the iconic 90s flick Priscilla makes its long-awaited comeback to the stage.
Priscilla the Party! – an adaptation of the film starring Terrence Stamp, Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce – will launch on March 25.
The show is a sequel to the global phenomenon, Priscilla Queen of the Desert: The Musical, which won a huge following.
Celebrity fans included Queen of Pop Kylie Minogue, actor John Barrowman and Bay Watch legend David Hasselhof.
But Priscilla the Party! plans to go one step further at the high-tech, Here at Outernet, by inviting theatre-goers to “unleash their inner diva”.
The venue is hidden four stories beneath London’s Soho and promises to bring the party to the punter.
Tickets offer theatre-goers premium dining experiences – and even a turn on the dancefloor.
Producer Patrick Bywalski beamed: “I think this soundtrack represents the best of Disco – it belongs to our DNA.
“You get that feel for ‘get up and boogie’ all along.
“We know theater land is moving.
“We expect our patrons to experience a new kind of entertainment in the heart of Soho.
“The Outernet gives us a fabulous opportunity with its state of the art giant screen ,sound, and lights systems.
“It is quite mind boggling. You get the feel of being in a concert, a cabaret and a theater at the same time.”
And he dared punters to match the “dazzling costumes” worn by the cast.
But he insisted Priscilla the Party! would build on the huge success of Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
He added: “What this new model does is creates a participatory experience where the audience and the performance come together in the same space.
“This creates an energy within the room which one can choose to engage upon or just enjoy watching it unfold.
“The story of Priscilla’s journey across the Australian outback has not changed over the years.
“What has changed dramatically is how we now culturally perceive the LBGTQ world.
“It is only recently that the world at large has come to not only accept but embrace the queer community.
“I see Priscilla The Party! as a celebration of this new reality.”
At the end of the show itself everyone comes together in a 1980s dance party, he joked.
Producer Rod Gunner said: “Our aim was to make the Australian outback palpable in central London, offering a fresh and dynamic take on the legacy.”
“Priscilla The Party! invites the audience to be active participants, unleashing their inner diva.
“The sensory experience, from eye-popping costumes to a soundtrack that encourages singing along, aims to make attendees integral to the narrative.
“We anticipate the interactive dance floor, diverse seating options, and the post-show party will be standout moments, creating lasting memories for everyone involved.”
Producer Randall A Buck added: “The story of Priscilla’s journey across the Australian outback has not changed over the years.
“What has changed dramatically is how we now culturally perceive the LBGTQ world.
“It is only recently that the world at large has come to not only accept but embrace the queer community. I see Priscilla The Party! as a celebration of this new reality.”
