The latest horror franchise to get a reboot—or should I say requel?— is I Know What You Did Last Summer. That splashy flick featured some of the ‘90s biggest stars, including Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Freddie Prinze, Jr. The upcoming film, which is frustratingly titled I Know What You Did Last Summer, will bring Hewitt and Prinze, Jr. back into the fold alongside a new generation of teens. And while we know that Gellar won’t return because, well, Helen died, many fans are still wondering about Brandy Norwood reprising her role as Karla.
In an interview with People, the film’s director, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, says we will have to watch it and see. To me, that sounds like we will see Karla again.
It’s doubtful that she will play a major role in the film but she could have a brief cameo. Maybe she chats on the phone with Julie or makes an appearance near the end of the film. Julie is living in North Carolina now so it’s unlikely that Karla lives nearby. That’s an easy way to slip Brandy on and off the set for I Know What You Did Last Summer without the chance of leaked photos happening.
Brandy Norwood previously said that she’d been contacted about reprising her role in I Know What You Did Last Summer as Karla, but never confirmed anything beyond that. Usually, if a person isn’t in something, they would just say so and move on. So, we hope this means there’s more Karla on the way. Please don’t let her die.
