ELLEN DeGeneres has owned up to being ‘demanding’ and ‘impatient’ after canceling a string of standup shows on her tour.
The former talk show host, who stepped out of the spotlight following a “devastating” scandal, launched a comeback tour called Ellen’s Last Stand…Up.
Earlier this week, Ellen, 66, performed a show at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa, California.
She opened the show by addressing the scandal which ended her run as host of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
“Let me catch you up on what’s been going on with me since you last saw me,” she said, pausing as the audience laughed, according to the SF Gate.
“I got chickens,” she announced.
Ellen continued, “Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean.”
In 2020, Ellen was accused of showing favoritism, making rude and racially-motivated comments about staffers, and firing employees for taking medical leave, in a bombshell report from Buzzfeed.
A viral Twitter thread that came out around the same time as the report alleged that she once fired someone on her staff for looking at and speaking to her.
“I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me.’ Now I realize I said that during the height of my popularity,” she said on stage.
The Finding Dory star confessed that she could be harsh and was perhaps not the best boss at times.
She did not apologize directly for her actions, instead occasionally referring to herself as mean and, at other times, calling the allegations “rumors” about her personality.
During the set, she said it was the second time she’d gotten the boot from Hollywood, suggesting the first came in the 90s when she came out as a lesbian.
“Nest time, I’ll be kicked out for being old. Old, gay and mean. The triple crown,” Ellen joked.
She added, “I can be demanding and impatient and tough. I am a strong woman.”
“I am many things, but I am not mean,” the Disney voice actor added.

PUMP THE BREAKS
Ellen announced her tour in April, revealing just a few dates to start before adding more due to popularity.
By May’s close, she had over 20 cities on her tour list.
The same month, People revealed that it would be fans’ “last opportunity” to see Ellen in her “final curtain call.”
The show promised to “reintroduce her trademark wit and laughter-inducing anecdotes” to those in attendance.
Ticketmaster has since revealed that four of the shows have been canceled, however.
Ellen canceled shows in Dallas on July 10, San Francisco on July 20, Seattle on July 22, and Chicago on August 11.
A Chicago show set for August 10 is still set to take place.
“Unfortunately, the Event Organizer has had to cancel your event,” a statement from the company read.
It continued, “You don’t need to do a thing. We’ll issue a refund to the original method of payment used at time of purchase, as soon as funds are received from the Event Organizer.
“It should appear on your account within 14-21 days.”
Fans were outraged at the late notice.
“I bought tickets to the Dallas show and you’re just not telling fans why you canceled last minute? We deserve an explanation the least you can do,” one angry fan wrote on Ellen’s recent Instagram post.
SAYING SORRY
After the Buzzfeed report broke, Ellen stepped away from the spotlight but not before apologizing.
“If you’re watching because you love me, thank you,” she said in an opening monologue on her show.
“If you’re watching because you don’t love me, welcome. As you may have heard, this summer there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show and then there was an investigation.
“Being known as the be-kind lady is a tricky position to be in […] The truth is I am that person that you see on TV, I am also a lot of other things.
“Sometimes I get sad. I get mad. I get anxious. I get frustrated. I get impatient. And I’m working on all of that.”
The final episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show aired on May 26, 2022.
