Though she’s already the driving force behind the powerhouse KNTXT imprint, Charlotte de Witte has announced she’s forging another artist-led label venture to join its ranks.
Titled Époque, the forthcoming record label further evidences de Witte’s unwavering commitment to both preserving and actively evolving the rich heritage of techno music. A celebration of the genre’s storied history in her home country of Belgium, Époque’s mission will seek in part to breathe new life into iconic tracks from the nation’s vibrant underground club scene of the late 90s and early 2000s.
“Époque is a Belgian label and nightlife archive by KNTXT and yours truly,” de Witte commented. “In collaboration with clubs and labels, past and present, we capture the spirit and lifestyle of our bygone discotheque culture. The Époque label remixes iconic tracks, brings back dance classics and uses club memories and aesthetics to translate them into unique new tracks produced by the current electronic scene.”
She will christen the new label with her reinterpretation of “Universal Nation,” a track that has achieved legendary status in the realm of techno. Initially conceived as a B-side release, the original record by Push went on to become an expectedly defining anthem of its era.
Charlotte de Witte’s rework of “Universal Nation” is slated to drop on Époque on January 25th, 2024. You can pre-save the track here.
