Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith is one of the greatest drummers of his generation. He also bears a striking resemblance to Will Ferrell so much so that they are likely twins separated at birth.
Chad Smith has collaborated with Drumeo throughout the years where he crushed their challenge of listening to a song he’s never heard without the drums on the track and then playing it how he thinks the drums should be included. But for his latest appearance, Chad Smith played drums on ‘Wu-Tang CLan Ain’t Nuthing To F’ Wit’, an iconic hip-hop track from the early 90s back when the Red Hot Chili Peppers were starting to blow up on MTV.
There are, of course, no drums on ‘Wu-Tang CLan Ain’t Nuthing To F’ Wit’ which appeared on Wu-Tang’s Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) album. That’s an album I actually owned on cassette tape and would listen to alone in my room even though I was way too young to be listening to that music at the time but my parents had no idea I had it.
There are, of course, explicit lyrics in the track so be forewarned if that is something you would prefer to avoid:
Is this better than the original? No. Does this breathe new life into the song in a way that I earnestly believe members of the Wu-Tang Clan would love to see it performed with live drums one day, perhaps with Questlove who lives in NYC on the drums? Absolutely. Chad Smith’s drums are an incredible addition to ‘Wu-Tang CLan Ain’t Nuthing To F’ Wit’.
And now for the original track for those, like me, who have the song stuck in their head after watching Will Smith’s twin brother Chad Smith crush it on the drums:
There’s nothing quite like the original. The grit on that track is unmatched.
