As his rumored divorce from Jennifer Lopez continues to unfold, reports indicate that Ben Affleck is “leaning on” his friend and producing partner Matt Damon.
After making a name for themselves by winning the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for their work on Good Will Hunting, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon then co-starred in a few Kevin Smith films in the late 90s and early 2000s.
Following Good Will Hunting, however, the A-list duo didn’t write a film together until 2021’s The Last Duel. They’ve also since starred together in Affleck’s 2023 film Air and launched the production company Artists Equity together.
“Ben is sad about it all but focused on his work, being a great dad, and co-parenting well with Jennifer Garner,” a source told Entertainment Tonight. “He has been leaning on Matt Damon and his close circle of guy friends. Matt is always in Ben’s corner and is supportive of him.”
Given the famed long-running friendship between Affleck and Damon, the report has led to many movie fans on Twitter making a similar joke about the pair.
Affleck and Damon’s company Artists Equity is producing Damon’s new AppleTV+ film The Instigators, which he stars in alongside Ben’s brother Casey Affleck. The Instigators will be released on AppleTV+ on August 9.
Artists Equity is ALSO producing a pair of Jennifer Lopez’s upcoming films, Unstoppable and Kiss of the Spider Woman. As for Affleck, he’s currently filming a sequel to his 2016 action thriller The Accountant.
Damon, on the other hand, had recent roles in films such as Oppenheimer, Drive-Away Dolls, and IF.
