A fresh boost of girl power could be on the menu, amid mounting speculation of a Spice Girls reunion.
But getting the band back together isn’t always the best idea, as petty rows and old rivalries have a way of shimmying to the surface. Here we take a look back over those musical comebacks that have ended in tears.
The Happy Mondays- 1999
Dubbed the sound of the Hacienda, the mancunian music factory that sparked a movement, the band reformed to relive their 80s heyday. But the gigs were a drunken disaster, Shaun Ryder had to read his lyrics off a teleprompter and was said to have been squaring up to band members in between songs. Their comeback single was blasted by the press as a ‘half arsed dogs breakfast.’
Kiss- 1996
After long term drummer Eric Carr died after being diagnosed with cancer of the heart in 1991, the band never quite recaptured their 80s star power. When they recruited Alice Cooper sticksman Eric Singer as a replacement, fans blasted band leader Gene Simmons for being insensitive and questioned how they could continue. Simmering tensions beneath the surface of their farewell Psycho Circus tour in 2000, eventually saw members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley cut from the line up.
Outcast 2014
The hip hop band got together for a reunion tour, but their appearances were branded ‘underwhelming.’ At their first show at the Coachella festival, they barely glanced at one another, as well as occasionally turning their backs away from the audience. It became clear the Andre 3000 and Big Boi are not keen to perform together.
Five Star 2018
They were Britain’s answer to the Jackson 5 with siblings Denise, Doris, Stedman, Delroy and Lorraine who topped the 80s charts and won a BRIT award for best group. But the pressures of fame can tear apart even the closest siblings in 2018, band member Denise launched a new band using the Five Star name, minus her family. Later, Lorraine who was diagnosed with breast cancer, admitted that she was no longer on speaking terms with her sister Denise. That same year Denise launched a new band using the Five Star name but with different band members.
