1 | American Primeval (Jan. 9)
Netflix
If you’re looking for a Western that breaks the gunslinger formula, consider the hotly anticipated miniseries American Primeval.
Set in 1857, this gripping and gritty drama follows a family as they try to defend themselves against a challenging and constantly evolving landscape. The project also reunites director Pete Berg with star Taylor Kitsch for what was reportedly a very grueling on-location shoot.
“Everyone thought it’d be so nice to go onto a soundstage but we were all in such a feral mental and physical state that we didn’t want to be inside,” Berg recently told Forbes in a video interview of filming in New Mexico. “We were at about an 8,500-foot altitude and there was a lot of snow. It was freezing cold and there were heavy winds and ice everywhere. People were literally struggling to stay on their feet. We were there for ten days or so and often we stayed up all night and that was some of the toughest shooting that I’ve ever done and I’ve done some fairly legit outdoor exterior shoots.”
2 | Cunk on Life (Jan. 2)
Netflix
Is this technically a documentary extension of a cult favorite mockumentary show? Absolutely. But for those who are fans of the brilliant absurdity of Cunk on Earth, that’s a minor technicality, given the quality of the content.
In this latest installment, the internet’s favorite deadpan host, Philomena Cunk (Diane Morgan), attempts to answer the biggest question that plagues mankind: Why are we even all here?
3 | Missing You (Jan. 1)
Netflix
Want to kick off 2025 with a good thriller? In the latest TV adaptation from mystery author Harlan Coben, a detective (Rosalind Eleazar) joins a dating app—only to shockingly match with the fiance who disappeared on her over a decade earlier. What follows is a slow realization that this part of her past might be dragging her into something much bigger than she can fully comprehend.
