So-called “good” movies usually have something important to say — there’s not a lot of Oscar winners about the state of the world being fine as-is. It’s basically a prerequisite to examine at least one of society’s ills, like prejudice, poverty or war, or just one character’s experience of addiction, disease or having a plain old shitty life. After all, there’s also not a lot of Oscar winners about someone who had a perfectly nice day.
But sometimes, you’re just not in the mood for a “good” movie. You yourself had a thoroughly not-nice day, and you don’t need to deal with the protagonist’s problems, too. You just want to watch a little guy have a little adventure — nothing too perilous or exhilarating, just a fun, lighthearted romp. It’s no surprise, then, that when user Klokk asked r/AskReddit, “What is the happiest, most uplifting film ever made?,” Reddit could easily name their favorite “crappy mood” movies.
