Sam Grisman Project have revealed a new series of live appearances, which map out their tour trajectory through mid-November. Known for their ever-evolving catalog of fan-loved traditonals, interpretations of Sam’s father David “Dawg” Grisman’s compositions, and borrowed tunes from family friends like Jerry Garcia, Peter Rowan, Doc Watson, and more, will be presented during the newly announced concerts, which begin on October 10 at Cohab.Space in High Point, N.C.

Following the initial onset of their new date, the band, which features a rotating lineup of talent, will arrive at the Lincoln Theatre in Marion, Va. on October 11. Remaining in the Southern region of the country, they will continue their run on October 15 at the Bijou Theatre in Knoxville, Tenn. This date features a co-bill with Dawg’s Old & in the Way collaborator, the great bluegrass icon, Rowan, who will continue on the road for a trio of upcoming concerts that were previously announced.

The next newly added date takes Sam Grisman Project to FTC Presents in Fairfield, Conn., on October 23, followed by their sophomore appearance at Woodstock, N.Y.’s Levon Helm Studios on October 24. Continuing their tour, the band will arrive at One Longfellow Square in Portland, Maine, on October 26, with two gigs scheduled: one, billed to begin at 2 p.m., followed by a secondary performance at 7:30 p.m.

Following a brief break from the road, the group will resume their run on November 6 at Stoughton Opera House in Stoughton, Wis., and Pittsburgh’s City Winery on November 16. The aforementioned date serves as the furthest outpost for the group’s live dates

Grisman spoke with Relix and appeared on the pages of our March 2025 print, where he spoke to the personal nature of the music he plays: “I don’t sing any songs I don’t connect with.  I have to have a personal connection with the singer, or the subject matter , or a particular performance to make me fall in love with the song. I’m not in this to do a better version of whatever turned me on to this song ‘cause that’s not possible.”

He also commented on his experience working and touring with Rowan, telling us, “ I already had a sketch of what I wanted to play with Peter because so much of his music is so beloved by me and my friends. He made all these tremendous records  in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s with Andy Statman and Tony Trischka. Doing tunes like ‘Moonshiner’ and ‘Thirsty in the Rain’ has been a blast. You can tell Peter is tickled. He brings the music’s essence and spirit to the stage when we’re playing that stuff. It transports us and him to that place.” For more on Rowan, visit peter-rowan.com.

Sam Grisman Project features a rotating cast of musician, including guitarists Max Flansburg [listen to “Rainforest Song,” on the Relix Staff Playlist], Logan Ledger, Sam Leslie, Henry Moser, Jesse Harper, and Jefferson Hamer, mandolinists Dominick Leslie, Joe K. Walsh, Matt Flinner, and Jesse Appelman, clawhammer banjo maestro Victor Furtado, fiddlers John Mailander, Alex Hargreaves, Nate Leath, Shad Cobb, and Phoebe Hunt, cellist Nat Smith, and Todd Livingston on the Dobro.

Sam Grisman and Peter Rowan will appear on the Thursday, July 31 lineup for The Heart of Town, an all-star celebration of the Grateful Dead led by Grahame Lesh & Friends.
