Russell Crowe Joins Henry Cavill HIGHLANDER Reboot Movie as Mentor Ramirez_1

“You’re never too old to learn.” You know that’s true because it still holds for those who can’t die no matter how old they get. Even Immortals need mentors, and Henry Cavill just got one of Hollywood’s best to play his in the upcoming Highlander reboot movie. Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe has joined the new Highlander movie as Ramirez, the role made famous by Sean Connery.

John Wick‘s Chad Stahelski is (briefly) leaving behind the High Table and gunplay for the Gathering and swordplay. He’s directing Amazon MGM Studios’ and United Artists’ highly anticipated reboot of Highlander. The Highlander remake will star Henry Cavill (Argylle) as Immortal Connor MacLeod, the leading role played by Christopher Lambert in the cult ’80s original. In that film, the legendary Connery played Lambert’s fellow Immortal, tutor, and friend, Ramirez. Now, Cavill has his own big-time star to fulfill that major role in his version of Highlander. Crowe has officially joined the movie to take on the role of Ramirez. (News we first heard at Deadline).

HIGHLANDER Reboot with Henry Cavill Will Be JOHN WICK Director’s Next Film

Those familiar with the 1986 film know what happened to Connery’s Ramirez. Let’s just say he did not end up ahead by the end. (Wait. No. He literally ended up a head.) But with Stahelski planning an entire Highlander franchise, it wouldn’t surprise us to see someone of Crowe’s stature stick around for a while longer in the reboot. That could be because his character lives longer or through flashbacks. Knowing this film will not be the only installment really opens up the possibilities for the character and the adaptation on the whole.

Just having Russell Crowe onboard also does that. It’s hard to expect anyone to live up to a Sean Connery performance. But if anyone in Hollywood can do exactly that, it’s Crowe. You don’t have to be Immortal to have learned the lesson that the only people who can replace legends are other legends. We can’t wait to see more of Crowe as this Highlander reboot kicks off.
