BRITISH actress Kate Beckinsale has announced the sad passing of her mother, aged 78, following a year-long cancer battle.
Kate, 51, took to Instagram on Thursday night to share that Judy Loe died in her arms on July 15.
Kate first revealed her mother’s cancer diagnosis last year, shortly after the death of her famous stepfather Roy Battersby, who tragically passed away in January following a massive stroke.
The 51-year-old, whose father Richard Beckinsale died when she was just a child, had an incredibly close relationship with Judy.
Kate posted a series of photos of her mother on Instagram along with a lengthy caption, just days after sharing a video of herself singing to her mother in hospital.
The devastated actress sadly revealed that Judy died “after immeasurable suffering”.
Kate’s heartbreaking post read: “I don’t want to post this. I am only posting this because I have had to register my mother’s death certificate, and it will soon become public record.
“She died the night of July 15 in my arms after immeasurable suffering.
“I have not picked all the best photos, nor the best videos, because I cannot bear to go through my camera roll yet.
“I deeply apologise to any of her friends who are finding out this way or through the press, but I cannot go through her phone.
“I am paralysed. Jude was the compass of my life, the love of my life, and my dearest friend.
“This tiny woman’s vastness and huge heart have touched so many people who love her dearly.
“She has been brave in so many ways, forgiving sometimes too much and believing in the ultimate good in people.
“The world is so dim without her that it is nearly impossible to bear. Mama, I love you so much.
“This has been my greatest fear since finding my father dead at five, and I am here.
“Oh my Mama.. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I am so sorry.”
Judy was widowed when her first husband Richard Beckinsale shockingly died in 1979, when Kate was just five-years-old.
The actor, famed for his roles in popular shows Rising Damp and Porridge, suddenly passed away on March 19, 1979, at the age of just 31.
Kate returned to Instagram in February a month after quitting to ask fans to pray for her mum.
And earlier this month, she shared a video of her tearing up as she sang Bye, Bye Love by The Everly Brothers to Judy in hospital in a reference to a vocal group she had when she was 14.
Judy was known for her role as Dr Helen Sanders in the final two series of the drama General Hospital, Princess May in the ATV drama series Edward the Seventh, and had several guest starring roles throughout her television career.
She appeared as Adele Cecil in Inspector Morse, and played Jan Goddard in both Casualty and Holby City.
Judy is also credited with an appearance in Netflix hit Fool Me Once in 2024.
It is the latest heartbreak for Kate after her stepfather Roy Battersby, who was married to Judy for 18 years, was diagnosed with two forms of cancer before his death.
He directed TV greats including Inspector Morse, Cracker, and A Touch Of Frost.
Following Roy’s passing last year, Kate revealed that her mother had also received her diagnosis.
Over the past year, Kate had been caring for both her mother and late stepfather, having flown them out from the UK to stay with her in Los Angeles.
