It’s New Music Friday, which means another slate of new and notable albums to stream.

This week’s highlights include a new album from Sharon Van Etten and her band The Attachment Theory, plus Guided By Voices’ 41st(!) studio album Universe Room. Plus, UK art-rock band Squid are back with Cowards, their third effort and one of our most anticipated albums of 2025.

Here are eight new albums to stream today.

Biig Piig — 11:11

One of our former Rising Artists to Watch, Biig Piig is back to share her second full-length, 11:11. The album finds Jess Smyth reprising some of the more dance-forward sounds of her early releases, and singles “4AM” and “Decimal” are euphoric, groovy offerings from the Irish singer, songwriter, and producer.

Guided By Voices — Universe Room

The indie rock veterans are adding to their extensive discography today with the release of their 41st album. Even after four-plus decades together, they’re still trying out new tricks; Bandleader Robert Pollard explained that he was aspiring to achieve “a little more sonic diversity” on Universe Room, which is why he took “a lot of different approaches to the recording of both the instruments and the vocals” across the tracklist.

Heartworms — Glutton for Punishment

With only one EP and a handful of singles to her name, Jojo Orme (A.K.A. Heartworms) has already opened for Jack White and St. Vincent. Fully warmed up, she is set to release her full-length debut album with producer and longtime collaborator Dan Carey. About being pigeonholed as a post-punk artist because of her work thus far, the London native insists that she “can also be poppy and catchy,” which is precisely what she seeks to demonstrate on Glutton For Punishment.

Squid — Cowards

Today, English post-punkers Squid drop Cowards, the follow-up to their 2023 effort O Monolith. According to the band, it’s an album about evil, with pre-album singles like “Crispy Skin” and “Cro – Magnon Man” foreshadowing as much. As their third full-length LP, Cowards continues Squid’s knack for explorative, genre-blending, dynamic art-rock.
