Yusuf/ Cat Stevens has announced the long-awaited release of his forthcoming memoir, Cat On The Road To Findout. The book is due in the UK on September 18 via Constable and in North America on October 7 through Genesis Publications. It provides fans and interested readers a glimpse into the ’60s pop limelight, which led to the musician’s ‘70s popularity along an expansive road of self-discovery.

Cat On The Road To Findout provides Stevens’ literal blueprint, the happenings and results of his effervescent career as a foundation for curiosity and intellectual investigation that wheels in his current return to music and art. On the pages, he administers 17 years of life lessons for seekers of wisdom and devoted peace.

“I’ve been on an amazing journey, which began in the narrow streets of London, and led me through the most iconic cities, to perform upon the great stage of Western culture, ascending the dizzying heights of wealth, recognition and artistic pinnacles; freely exploring vast ranges of religions and philosophies, wandering through churches, temples, all the way to the Holy abode in Jerusalem — ignoring myths and warnings — and crossing the foreboded, desert heartlands, to arrive at the House of One God in Abrahamic Arabia,” he says via press release.

Continuing, “What finally elevated my perspective was a luminous Book that perfectly alchemized my thoughts, beliefs, with human nature. It taught me Oneness, and my place and purpose within the universe.”

Stevens’ ascent derives from the chart-topping success of his early career achievements: “Matthew and Son” and “The First Cut Is the Deepest.” A life-threatening bout with tuberculosis nearly cut short his career, shifting his perspective and inspiring his quest for tranquility.

After the experience, he returned to the stage, captivating the masses and growing his following with the arrival of 70s era anthems: “Wild World,” “Father and Son,” “Peace Train,” and “Morning Has Broken.” In addition to the success of LPs like Mona Bone Jakon, Tea for the Tillerman, and Teaser and the Firecat, Stevens was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and achieved Songwriters Hall of Fame status.

In the mid-70s, Stevens faced another life-changing experience. After nearly drowning in 1975, he converted to Islam and updated his title to Yusuf Islam. He left the music industry, dedicating his time to humanitarian work and religious practice. He won the World Award for “humanitarian relief work helping children and victims of war” and the Man of Peace Award, voted for by the Nobel Peace Laureates.

The new book examines all aspects of Stevens’ impact, including his latest return to music, including the May 2, 2025, release of Saturnight: Live From Tokyo. Stream now.
