A woman has gone viral on TikTok after posting a video showing an 81-year-old waitress who was unable to retire. She’s since raised over $140,000 for the elderly woman.
On Wednesday, March 26, TikToker Tamie Lynn went out to dinner with her son, where she sat at a table with an 81-year-old waitress.
After talking to the woman, Tamie learned that she was unable to retire at her age because Social Security benefits didn’t pay enough to cover her bills.
Tamie uploaded a video during her meal in an attempt to raise some money for the woman, and in the process, managed to change the waitress’s life for the better
“If I could have any video go viral, I hope it’s this one,” she said. “Our server is probably in her 70s and she can hardly walk. We heard her tell the table next to us that she’s working because she only makes $900 a month on Social Security, and she has to still work because her bills exceed that.”
The TikToker added that any proceeds she makes from the video will go to the waitress, and the upload quickly went viral on the platform.
With over 4.4M views, users flocked to the comments asking Tamie to start a GoFundMe for the woman so they could donate, and she very quickly did.

Within minutes, donations began to pour into the woman’s GoFundMe page. It wasn’t long until the funds surpassed $10k.
At the time of writing, the fundraiser has surpassed $140,000, and donations are still flooding in.
Tamie posted an update for those wanting to learn more about the situation, leaving many shocked and herself in tears.
“I’m going to cry,” she said. “I cannot believe that this happened. I told my dad on the phone today, and he cried, too. Thank you, everyone, for your generosity.
“I’m glad that this went viral, and she is deserving of this. I also have $3,200 in my Venmo, and that’s all hers.”
Tamie also added that the manager of the restaurant reached out to her, and they are working on a plan to surprise her with the money raised.
