The Simpsons Renewed Through Season 40

Already the longest-running animated TV series in history, The Simpsons will continue through at least season 40.

Per Variety, Fox has handed out a four-season renewal to The Simpsons, which will keep new episodes in production up to the 2028-2029 broadcast season.

Although The Simpsons’ ratings and critical reception have declined since its heyday in the 1990s and early 2000s, it remains a valuable asset for FOX. In addition to the show’s lucrative merchandising, which includes a Universal Studio Theme Park, the network earns millions from its distribution deal with Disney, where all previous seasons are streamed.

How much longer The Simpsons will continue beyond its 40th season is anyone’s guess. Many of the show’s principal voice actors are in their late 60s or early 70s, with Harry Shearer, the voice behind Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns, and others, now 81. Pamela Hayden, who voiced Milhouse, announced her retirement in 2024.

Along with renewing The Simpsons, Fox committed to four more seasons each of Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers, and announced that American Dad will be returning to its broadcast airwaves.
