The Beach Boys have announced a new limited edition box set entitled Sail on Sailor – 1972, featuring music from the California rock band’s 18th studio album, 1972’s Carl and the Passions – “So Tough,” and their follow-up, 1973’s Holland. The collection is due on Nov. 18 via Capitol/UMe. Also included in the announcement is a preview of what’s to come, with the previously unreleased live track, “You Need A Mess of Help to Stand Alone.” Listen here.
The impending box set is available in deluxe and super deluxe editions and boasts material from the ensemble’s fruitful ‘70s era, split into a new multi-disc package. Included are six physical CDs, housed in a hardback book-style package, with a 48-page booklet with liner notes written by Howie Edelson.
Moreover, the forthcoming drop features a previously unreleased concert from New York’s Carnegie Hall, which was recorded in 1972 and spread over three discs. The complete collection serves listeners with several unreleased bonus tracks, as well as the original Mount Vernon and Fairway 7-inch EP, which has not been available since the ‘70s.
The band will also offer their latest project in digital format for easy listening access. In addition to music, the set has new archival interviews with the veteran group, rare photos of the band, recording artifacts, and promotional memorabilia from back in the day– all to paint a complete picture of the early-‘70s Beach Boys era.
