Little Feat have unveiled the latest single off their forthcoming album, Strike Up The Band, due on May 9 via Hot Tomato. “Midnight Flight” arrives in tandem with its official music video, an audio and visual pairing that harkens back to classic Little Feat motifs: love-dipped lyrics, a catchy horn line, and a forceful guitar solo from the track’s writer and 2019 band entry, Scott Sharrard co-opts.

“I wrote this song in the winter of 2020, shortly after joining Little Feat,” Sharrard says of the release. “Looking back on it, I feel like this song blends the sonic palate of Freddie King’s albums with Leon Russell and the sound we all love so much, which we heard on Little Feat’s ‘comeback’ album, Let It Roll. It’s got that boogie feel that gets people up.”

The video for “Midnight Flight” was directed and edited by Joshua Britt and Neilson Hubbard with Neighborhoods Apart Productions. It was filmed at The Eastside Bowl in Madison, Tenn., where the band can be seen on stage, entertaining an audience with big guitar riffs, complimentary horns, and a certain crackle and pop of Southern rock that can only be Little Feat.

In addition to new music, the band also revealed its Memorial Day Weekend plans by announcing Feat Fest–three nights of music at the Bearsville Theatre in Woodstock, N.Y. The performances will be recorded for a potential live LP. According to the band’s post via Instagram (see below), the performances will embrace the “And Friends” concept, names have not been revealed.

The town of Woodstock, NY, like most iconic spots on the American musical map, has become more than a place, it’s a feeling. The same could be said for the sound of Little Feat. The connection of the band to this location goes all the way back to the 1960s and 70s. It was the sound of The Bands “Music from Big Pink” and their work with Bob Dylan that helped spur on the founding of Little Feat by Lowell George and Bill Payne in 1969. Since the early 2000s, Levon Helms Midnight Ramble became a jam hang out and incubator for members of our band. Now it’s Little Feats turn to decamp, hang out a while and infuse the mountain air with some Feat Boogie,” Sharrard commented on the three-day event.

He continues, “The Bearsville Theater will be hosting us for a rock and roll revival and celebration of over 50 years of gonzo funk, rad gumbo, soul ballads, and interstellar improvisations. We will have a few local friends along for the ride to honor the Little Feat tradition and take part in the sound of the local Woodstock community of extraordinary friends, artists, and musicians.

Our 3-night residency will also be recorded for a future live album, so we are inviting you all to come and be part of this next chapter in the band’s history. From its origin as the land of the Lenape Indians to its reign as Rock and Roll’s true musical mountain sanctuary, we are thrilled to present Woodstock and the Bearsville Theater as the location for the first Feat Fest, 2025.”
