Jordana Breaks Down New Album Lively Premonition Track by Track

Track by Track is our recurring feature series in which artists guide readers through each song on their new release. Today, former Consequence CoSign Jordana breaks down her new album, Lively Premonition.

When Jordana chatted with us two years ago about her sophomore effort, Face the Wall, the biggest theme was “self-growth.” Now, with her new album, Lively Premonition, that growth has spawned a more developed and mature sound for the LA-based singer and songwriter.

Her crystal clear vocals and personality are still well on display, but Lively Premonition brings more organic instrumentation, folk-inflected harmonies, and a Laurel Canyon vibe that adds some extra warmth to her sunny sound. Plus, she’s brought back her violin for the first time in several years.

“Maybe it’s my LA record,” says Jordana, referencing her move to California after a brief stint in Brooklyn during her Face the Wall era. She worked on the album throughout 2023 with multi-instrumentalist and producer Emmett Kai, immersing herself in a different style of writing. “It’s about the cycle of love, heartbreak, lust, party-going, self-acceptance, connections, and rediscovering yourself over and over again,” she says.

Across the 10 tracks of Lively Premonition, Jordana draws deeper from the well of inspiration, taking cues from ’70s yacht rock and folk pop as well as the 2000s indie she grew up on. But even with more unpredictable instrumentation and melodies, Jordana is letting the light in on Lively Premonition, and she’s never sounded so radiant.
