Blue Traveler’s Chan Kinchla and his W4RHORS3 side project have released a new album on vinyl and across streaming platforms. The ensemble, which features guitarist Kinchla, bassist Paul Ill, drummer Wally Ingram, and keyboardist Maxwell Butler, delivered 10 tracks that delve into jam-fueled rock-and-roll.
And The Horse They Rode In On serves as W4RHORS3’s (pronounced “Warhorse”) debut album, which lightly brushes into concept territory as the LP uses its tracking list to comprise the story of W4RHORS3, “a green robot and the band’s namesake–who is lost in space with only the power of good music to guide him home.”
Using the aforementioned mode of storytelling, the band fuels the album feature “Struck By Lightening” with bright synth funk ahead of peaceful singer-songwriter conditioning across “Wind and Rain.” Elsewhere on the LP, W4RHORS3 pays homage to the thrill of ‘70s rock via “Girl on a Mountain.”
Kinchla and Ingram’s affiliation with Blues Traveler informs the band’s improvisational strengths. Fellow ace artists who have culled their saged career experience into the sonic semblance of And The Horse They Rode In On; Ill’s groove master status, coupled with Butler’s expressive key work.
