Coming off the success of their live appearances in New Zealand and Australia as part of their ongoing Elevation Tour, ZZ Top has dispatched a lineup update, sharing that their longtime drummer, Frank Beard, will rejoin the run for North American dates, beginning on June 1 in Victoria, B.C.
The news comes after Beard’s March announcement that he would step away from his duties behind the kit for an undisclosed health issue, resolved today as foot and ankle issues that had prohibited his full capacity. In the band’s press release, they referred to Beard as “a man of few words,” before sharing his comment, “It’s good to be back. See you out there.”
Frontman, Billy Gibbons added, “We’re happy that Frank is back with (bassist) Elwood (Francis) and yours truly, BFG. We missed him and are looking forward to turning it up and rocking out with him as has been the case for the last few hundred or so decades. His complete recovery is cause for celebration and that’s just what we intend to do on an open-ended basis. Welcome back, pardner!”
Beard’s ZZ Top association dates to the late ‘60s as a member of The Moving Sidewalks, which transitioned into its modern-day ZZ Top title in July 1971. Notably, Beard contributed to their initial 1971 LP, ZZ Top’s First Album, credited under Rube Beard.
