‘John Wick’ Studio Exec Offers Update On 5th Film

Considering the ending of John Wick: Chapter 4 and the increasing age of franchise star Keanu Reeves, the prospect of a fifth film in the main franchise (not counting spin-offs) has felt like a dicey prospect. Lionsgate, the studio that distributes John Wick, seems quite confident in it happening, however.

While director Chad Stahelski has been a bit cagey about making a fifth John Wick film since the release of Chapter 4 in 2023, Lionsgate exec Jenefer Brown seems to believe the movie is moving full steam ahead.

During a recent interview, Brown confirmed that development on John Wick 5 — in addition to further spin-offs, TV shows and a video game — is underway.

“Up next, of course, is Ballerina, which is our first spin-off movie and [we] can’t wait for that to release to the world. Of course, we’ve announced we’re working on a fifth John Wick film,” Lionsgate EVP and head of Global Products and Experiences Jenefer Brown said in an interview with ComicBook.

“I think there are more spinoffs to come, a TV series, video game. We’ve shared that we’re developing a fifth John Wick film. [John Wick] may be [dead]. We are all on bated breath waiting to find out.”

On a personal note, through my industry connections, I’ve spoken with someone who’s connected to the production of the John Wick movies and asked if Reeves could really give it another go-around now that he’s in his 60s, and this friend of mine compared the beloved actor to an artist: painters paint, musicians makes music, and Keanu Reeves makes John Wick movies — it’s simply what he must do.

As Brown mentioned, the Ana de Armas– starring spinoff Ballerina is up next for the John Wick franchise when it hits movie theaters on June 6. In addition to de Armas and Reeves, Ballerina also stars Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, and Lance Reddick in a posthumous role.
