Classic rockers Bachman-Turner Overdrive have released the track “60 Years Ago,” the band’s first new song in more than a quarter century. The tune features a guest guitar solo from fellow Canadian rock legend Neil Young.
The new single comes just as BTO are about to launch their “Back In Overdrive Tour,” which kicks off with a spring Canadian outing on April 1st in Victoria, British Columbia. A US jaunt will follow in July and August, with tickets available here.

It’s been a rough couple years for BTO, as classic members Robbie Bachman (drums) and Tim Bachman (guitar) died within a few months of each other in 2023.
Singer-guitarist Randy Bachman recruited a couple of family members to record the new song, including his son Tal Bachman (an established singer-songwriter himself) and Tal’s wife, Koko Bachman (drums), along with classic BTO member Fred Turner on vocals and the aforementioned solo from Neil Young.

“As a thank-you to Winnipeg, the city that shaped us, I wrote a song called ‘60 Years Ago.’” stated Randy in ap press release. “It features Tal Bachman, KoKo Bachman, and me, with Fred Turner on vocals, and features an incredible guitar solo from Neil Young.”
He added, “This song is our tribute to Winnipeg, the place where we grew up as teenagers in the ’60s, a time when the city’s music scene was exploding. It was the Liverpool of North America, a melting pot of incredible talents. Everyone I’ve talked to who spent time in Winnipeg and witnessed that musical explosion is excited to hear this song, and I hope you all enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating it.”
As for the touring lineup, it will include Randy, Tal, and Koko, along with Lance Lapointe on bass and Brent Knudsen on guitar. “We sound better than ever, enthused Randy. “We’re playing all the hits, as well as diving deep into the album cuts, and the response from fans has been incredible. We can’t wait to tour Canada in April and May and show off this powerhouse lineup. The BTO sound is BACK!!”
In addition to hitting the road with BTO, Randy also recently told American Songwriter that he and Burton Cummings are planning to reunite The Guess Who in 2026.
“[Burton is] finishing up his stuff this year, I’m finishing up my BTO stuff,” remarked Randy. “And we have a plan for 2026 to be The Guess Who, where … we do a set list of about 30 hit songs, and it’s probably gonna be a two- or three-hour Springsteen kind of marathonic show.”
