Seven Hours After Violet’s Debut Album and New Song “Radiance”

Seven Hours After Violet, the new project from System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian, have announced their self-titled debut album, out October 11th via Sumerian Records. The band also dropped another single, “Radiance.”

From the band name down through the freshly unveiled album art, Seven Hours After Violet are clearly tapping into a 2000s nu-metal aesthetic, which also translates to the music. “Radiance” traverses both heavy and melodic territory, signaled by the shifts between clean and harsh singing. The subtle electronic sampling during the instrumental breaks is a particularly nu-metal move.

Seven Hours After Violet consist of Odadjian on bass, singer Taylor Barber (Left to Suffer), guitarist Morgoth (Winds of Plague, producer), singer-guitarist Alejandro Aranda (Scarypoolparty, American Idol), and drummer Josh Johnson (Winds of Plague). The band made its debut back in June with the excellent harsher “Paradise,” a Heavy Song of the Week selection.

“This album is the culmination of years of creative exploration,” remarked Odadjian in a press release. “With Seven Hours After Violet I wanted to return to my roots in heavy music but also bring something entirely new to the table. ‘Radiance’ and its precursor, ‘Paradise,’ are but a small glimpse of the intensity, musical diversity and emotion that run through this album. We can’t wait for everyone to hear it in full and to bring these songs to life on stage at our first live performance at Mayhem Fest.”

As Odadjian mentioned, Seven Hours After Violet will play their first gig on October 12th — the day after their album drops — at the revived Mayhem Festival in San Bernardino, California (get tickets here).
