Fresh off the release of her new album, Short n’ Sweet, Sabrina Carpenter stopped by the 2024 MTV VMAs to perform a medley of “Please Please Please,” “Taste,” and “Espresso” on Wednesday night (September 11th). Watch the rising star’s appearance below.
Following an introduction from Cyndi Lauper, Carpenter was lowered to the stage on a massive swing while singing “Please Please Please.” After touching down, she transitioned into “Taste” and kissed an alien. Closing things out, her “Espresso” performance was backed by a group of astronauts doing full choreography.

Carpenter’s performance follows quite a successful summer from the artist. “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” were both in contention for our 2024 “Song of the Summer,” and she’s currently gearing up for a 33-date North American headlining arena tour — the “Short n’ Sweet Tour” (get tickets here). It was such a crazy few months for Carpenter, in fact, that she reportedly worked through the unique experience of achieving immense popularity so quickly with Chappell Roan.
Though she’s only a first-time nominee, Carpenter racked up a whopping six VMA nods at this year’s ceremony, including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year (“Espresso”), Best Pop, Best Direction (“Please Please Please”), Best Editing (“Espresso”), and Best Art Direction (“Please Please Please”).
